В традиционных культурах мало абстрактных категорий.

Бывает, что нет слов, обозначающих реку вообще, а есть названия конкретных рек и озёр.

Кстати, в русском языке XVIII века сталь - "уклад". Спутать железо и уклад куда труднее, чем метал и сталь.
